No because, “free CDL training” is never actually free. You already know there is really no such thing as a free lunch, so somebody always has to pay for that free CDL training. What if you find other truck driving schools that offer discounted tuition? … you will find out it comes with a catch, a big one.
Those schools will require you to sign a contract to drive for a particular carrier for a specified period of time after graduation. This is called contract training, and typically it is how that free truck driving school can cover the cost to train you. While contract training may save you a little money up front, it can cost you tremendous money over the long haul. It eliminates your freedom to choose your employer or to find yourself a better job driving for another trucking company. Truck Driver Institute does not engage in contract training. Our students are free to compare and accept employment offers from any of over 20 carriers — some of the biggest, best-known trucking companies in the U.S.A. who actively recruit our graduates every week.
During your 3 weeks (15 days) of training for your CDL license at Truck Driver Institute, you are not yet hauling freight and therefore, not paid. When you get your CDL license, you will have the opportunity go to work with a carrier of your choice* and join a senior driver to complete your on-the-job company orientation and training (and will be paid).
*TDI does not guarantee placement.
Yes, absolutely! Many carriers offer generous tuition reimbursement programs to students to help pay for training if you qualify.
That means there are trucking companies that will cover part or all of the cost of your CDL training and can even put some extra money in your pocket. These tuition reimbursement programs can vary by carrier over time. So, our recruiters keep up to date with which carriers offer our students tuition reimbursement and how much. We will help you with the details and walk you through the process to qualify.* The rest is up to you.
* TDI does not guarantee placement.
Scholarships may be available in some cases to help pay for the cost of CDL training to students who meet specific requirements. Recruiters in our Admissions Office will give you the details. If you qualify, we can help you apply. If you are approved, a scholarship can reduce the cost of getting your Class A CDL license.
Your upfront out-of-pocket cost will be approximately $200 – $300, depending on whether you require lodging.
Most truck lines will help with the balance through their Tuition Assistance Programs. Even with the low cost of tuition, there are still several options available for covering the costs of CDL Training. Some of these options include:
1 – Career Education Funding
There are several financial assistance options available to help with the cost of CDL Training with very little upfront out of pocket expenses. Truck Driver Institute’s Student Services Department is available to assist in coordinating and implementing the best funding option for you.
2 – Employer Tuition Assistance
Like nurses, truck drivers are in great demand, and many employers are willing to do what it takes to attract qualified candidates. Along with a strong pay and benefit plan many trucking companies are even willing to invest in your education through Tuition Assistance Programs once hired. All this over and above a very attractive pay package and with no employment contracts required.
