Team Driving Jobs: A Couple’s New Beginning
As the economy has continued to slow, trucking companies seem to be looking to hire more team drivers. According to Big Rig Driving, team driving operations benefit trucking companies and drivers in the form of efficiency. Mark and wife Mary Ann recently decided to team up together to go through CDL training at Truck Driver Institute.
“This has been a dream for me and my husband and we finally did it,” Mary Ann said.
Mark and Mary Ann worked separate jobs for many years. For nearly 16 years Mary Ann drove a school bus. Mark worked in the corporate world as a quality assurance manager for 32 years. The unfortunate loss of Mark’s third job caused by plant closings and buyouts led to their journey towards team driving jobs.
“I wanted a more stable career to get me through the next 12 to 15 years of employment,” Mark said. “And my wife and I have talked for years about team driving together.”
Mark’s job loss was a blessing in disguise that gave the couple the opportunity to get CDL training at Truck Driver Institute. Mark and Mary Ann worked with our recruiter at the Murfreesboro Truck Driver Institute location. Mark and Mary Ann also have had great things to say about the TDI staff.
“The hands on approach of Ernie, Eric, Kevin and Harry made the training process much easier,” Mark said. “I know I have been a challenge for Eric on my backing skills,” Mary Ann said. “He has worked with me a lot and has been so patient!”
Mark and Mary Ann graduated from TDI on November 21. They have decided to become a driving team for Schneider National. They are excited to begin orientation at Schneider on January 1. For three weeks Mark and Mary Ann will work with a trainer at Schneider on the road.
“When they feel we are ready,” Mark said, “we will be assigned our own truck.”
It has been great to hear such positive news from a couple that is excited to begin team driving. We look forward to hearing about Mark and Mary Ann’s future truck driving experiences.
We received this update from Mary and Mary Ann on January 28th, 2013
Mary Ann and I hope all is well with you. We wanted to make you aware of our Schneider status. We both just completed all Schneider training & testing last week and passed all criteria. We both drove approx. 1000 miles each with our training engineer through 13 states. We are now off for a few days, then travel to Charlotte, NC later this week to pickup our 2013 Freightliner Cascadia.
We’ll send some pics as soon as available. It’s been a long journey but well worth it!
