TDI is one of the best places in the state of Georgia to earn your Class A Commercial driver’s license. Class A CDL’s are required for any commercial or freelance operation of standard shipping trucks, tractor-trailer trucks, livestock carriers, flatbeds, tankers and more. We also offer additional training for Class B and C licenses as well.

What Do I Need to Get My CDL?

All trucking schools and carriers have to follow the licensing standards of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. The requirements to get your CDL are as follows:

  • Be at least 18 years old, to drive trucks within the state, 21 for out of state
  • Possess a valid Class E driver’s license.

And that’s all. Of course, each state has different road laws, but most people are eligible to receive the license as long as you receive the proper training. This includes those convicted of felonies, who are allowed to obtain the license so long as their crime did not involve a motorized vehicle.

Atlanta is a major distribution hub and home of several international brands. Millions of products are sent out every year, and many think it would be easy to find a job on your own. Not so much, it seems. Major carriers usually won’t consider drivers who don’t have the recommendation from an accredited driving program.

How Does TDI Help?

Three Week Training

TDI understands that you want to start earning ASAP, so we have focused lessons that take most schools seven or more weeks into three comprehensive weeks of training. Each week is a different step of your CDL process. Week one ensures your readiness to get your CDL permit and teaches you about the technical aspects of the job, like trip planning, cargo claims, weight scales, map inspections, and more. The permit is required for the hands-on driving lessons provided during week two. You will be able to get behind the wheel of a real truck and test your skills around the 15 acre driving facility. Both automatic and manual transmission are covered to make sure you have the needed skills for any job. By week three, you will be ready to head out on a real road alongside your instructor in low traffic to test your skills and prepare you for the on-site test for your license.

Skilled Instructors

Our instructors are leading industry professionals trained to adapt the material to your learning style. Each instructor is required to have at least two to three years of industry experience and attend multiple classes to become certified. They supervise on the off-road training range during the day and slowly work students up to learning the skills for night driving on the open road. Our experts know all the tips and tricks to truck driving that cannot be learned from a textbook alone, and we know how to let the best in the trucking community show you how it’s done.

Job Placement

TDI will not waste your time or money if you don’t have potential. We pre-screen our students to make sure we find the people with the best driver potential. Job placement is our number one priority, so during your classes you will meet with a staff member to discuss your career goals and employer needs. Maybe you have a family you must schedule around, or you have an industry you’d like to drive for. TDI then works with our employers partners to find a carrier who will fit your needs, and 80% of our students receive offers before graduation. Best of all, we continue to work with you until you find an employer, and offer our employment services to all graduates at any time.

Cost

Most driving schools can cost thousands of dollars for the chance to get you CDL, but not Truck Driver Institute. Upfront, you’ll only need to shell out $200-$300 depending on if you need lodging for your time here. There are a few ways to cover the cost if you’re still worried:

  • Career Education Funding: Our Student Services department is happy to help you find the best funding option for your needs, whether it is informing you of veterans benefits or scholarships.
  • Employer Tuition Assistance: Many employers are willing to invest in the education of potential drivers due to the demand for truck drivers. You won’t need to sign an employment contract, so you still have your options open after graduation.
