How Our Sanford Truck Driving Training Stands Out from Other Schools
Unlike other truck driving schools in the Orlando area, TDI is focused on hands-on efficient training designed to get you out on the road as quickly as possible. Within our three-week program, you’ll be taught everything you need to know to feel safe, confident, and ready to take on your new career.
Another aspect that makes our program the front-runner is that we’re affordable. Compared to other schools, we have incredibly reasonable prices and offer assistance to veterans with GI benefits. We are committed to helping students achieve their educational and career goals through structured CDL training designed for long-term success. If you’re not located near Orlando, you can train at any of our additional locations across the country and receive the same high-quality education and instruction.
We also pre-screen all students to ensure they meet the requirements of our partner carrier companies, helping align training with real hiring opportunities. This is something many CDL schools do not offer. As a result, our truck driver training program is designed to better prepare students for carrier expectations and help connect graduates with potential job opportunities after completion.
What to Expect with Our CDL Training Programs
While enrolled in our CDL license training, you will learn both the technical and operational aspects of driving a semi-truck. On the technical side, you’ll learn how to maintain driver logs, read maps, plan trips, and conduct a pre-trip safety inspection of your vehicle. Knowing how to drive safely, as well as handling the day-to-day responsibilities of your truck and route, is essential to becoming a professional truck driver.

Another key part of our program is the hands-on training experience. This portion puts you behind the wheel of a full-sized 18-wheeler while you learn shifting techniques, turning maneuvers, and how to safely back up the vehicle under the guidance of an expert instructor. We teach automatic driving as well as manual to make sure you’re well-rounded and will excel no matter where you end up or what type of driving you’re interested in. You’ll have time to train both with and without instructor supervision, giving you the support you need while also building independence. Once you’ve mastered operating the tractor-trailer forward and in reverse, you’ll complete your on-site testing for your Florida Class A CDL.
As you can see, our courses are a mixture of classroom and behind-the-wheel training to ensure that you leave our training facilities with the skills, knowledge, and experience that major transportation companies are looking for from their rookie drivers. And though you may be a rookie driver, you’ll be driving like a long-time expert in the field.
CDL Licenses Explained: Class A, B, and C Training Options
Although we focus on the Class A CDL here at TDI, here’s a breakdown of each license and what types of vehicles they allow you to operate:
| Class A CDL | Class B CDL | Class C CDL |
|---|---|---|
| Most advanced CDL – tows a trailer with a GVWR of 10,000 lb and over (standard 18-wheeler) | Vehicles under 10,000 lb GVWR with a single-axle trailer | GVWR under 26,001 lb; tows under 10,000 lb; or carries 16+ passengers including driver |
| Cleared to drive every vehicle Class B and C drivers can operate | Buses, box trucks, delivery trucks, dump trucks, tilt beds, tour buses, passenger vans, and more | Tank trucks, small trucks towing a trailer, passenger vans, and hazmat vehicles with proper endorsements |
| Required to drive over state lines with large cargo | Restricted to the issuing state – best for regional driving careers | Least versatile CDL; common for specific job requirements not focused on driving |
Class A CDL Training Near Sanford
This Class A CDL is the most advanced CDL you can obtain. That’s because it allows you to drive everything up to a truck capable of towing a trailer with a GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) of 10,000 pounds and over. The standard 18 wheeler requires a Class A commercial driver’s license.
Note that a Class A CDL allows you to drive everything up to a full-sized semi-truck. That means you’re cleared to drive every vehicle that Class B and C drivers can operate. We recommend that new drivers go for the Class A license even if they’re not interested in long-haul trucking with a full-sized truck. A Class A CDL is required to drive over state lines with that large cargo.
CLASS B CDL Training for Regional Driving
This Class B CDL allows you to drive a vehicle which can carry less than 10,000 pounds GVWR and has a single-axle trailer. This means Class B drivers can drive all kinds of busses, box trucks, delivery trucks, dump trucks, tilt beds, tour buses, passenger vans, and more!
The Class B CDL is restricted to the state in which it was issued – you can’t drive between states to work long-haul jobs. On the other hand, it’s perfect for professionals seeking regional driving careers.
Class C CDL Training for Hazmat and Passenger Vehicles
The Class C CDL permits you to drive vehicles with GVWRs of less than 26,001 pounds, vehicles towing other vehicles that weigh less than 10,000 pounds, and vehicles that transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver.
The Class C CDL allows you to drive tank trucks, small trucks towing a trailer, passenger vans, and hazmat vehicles, provided you obtain the proper training and endorsements to do so. Class C CDLs are the least versatile commercial driving licenses you can receive. That’s why they may be more prevalent among people who have a particular need for a CDL, such as a job requirement that does not focus on driving.
