Small businesses can offer employees great company cultures, missions, and room for advancement. But for many truckers, working with a big company comes with a lot of perks. FedEx is one of the largest shipping companies in the world, making it an attractive employer for many Truck Driver Institute graduates.
While FedEx is not an official partner carrier with TDI, Truck Driver Institute is one of the FedEx-approved CDL training providers. This means our graduates are eligible to get hired by FedEx and start their FedEx truck driving careers, as well as work for independent companies that handle FedEx freight.

When choosing a truck driving school, you need to make sure that your education will actually qualify you to work for the companies you’re interested in, if not offer you an introduction to a partner carrier directly. Fortunately for prospective FedEx employees, TDI is one of the FedEx-approved truck driving schools, based on our curriculum and safety criteria.
This means that when TDI students go to apply for a FedEx truck driving job or a job with one of their independent contractors, their TDI education (and acquisition of a CDL) will qualify them to get hired as a driver. In addition to FedEx itself being a major employer, many companies deliver freight for FedEx and follow the same qualification parameters.
Getting your education through a school that is not considered qualified by FedEx is a blow to your career and could limit your employability. But with CDL training from Truck Driver Institute, you never have to worry—we are in good standing with FedEx and a whole host of other major carriers like Amazon, Werner Enterprises, Schneider, and more.
Unlike some smaller companies, there are many different types of FedEx truck driving careers you can choose from. With operations and independent contractors around the world, FedEx is a huge employer, and a great place to grow your trucking career.

While many TDI students come to the field interested in freight trucking, you may realize over the course of your education that ground truck driving is actually a better fit for you. You may want to stay closer to home, for example, or have a more standardized schedule.
With one of the many FedEx ground truck driving jobs, you can find employment through an independent contractor in your area who works directly with FedEx. You’ll likely have a more standardized schedule than you could expect to find otherwise.
If you want to work locally and are interested in working directly with FedEx (not third-party contractors), you can consider working at one of the Express, or FedEx local, truck driving jobs. Express drivers are direct FedEx employees who drive company-owned trucks with routes and schedules set by FedEx.
Express drivers often enjoy higher pay and better benefits (full medical, tuition reimbursement, and retirement). They get the full perks of working directly for a big company like FedEx that may offer further opportunities for career advancement.
If you think that the only FedEx job opportunities are for local drivers, think again. FedEx freight truck driving jobs involve driving straight trucks, tractor-trailers, and longer combination vehicles to connect service centers, load and unload shipments, and deliver freight to customers. You may interact with customers, or you may work exclusively in FedEx’s system, moving deliveries between FedEx locations. Generally, you’ll need your CDL for these jobs (which you should have by the time you finish at TDI).
Like FedEx Express drivers, FedEx freight drivers are direct employees of FedEx, not independent contractors. This means they have access to the same pay structure and benefits of full employees.
It’s important to note that there is also FedEx Custom Critical, which is a separate specialty service that does use independent contractor owner-operators who own their own vehicles, but that’s different from regular FedEx freight.
There are a lot of benefits to learning at TDI for new truckers starting their careers. And for truckers looking to start work at FedEx, TDI offers advantages that will make you stand out from the pack. In addition to being one of the FedEx-approved truck driving schools, TDI offers students:
The main advantage of being a TDI graduate looking for FedEx truck driving jobs is that many carriers actively recruit from TDI because of our school’s reputation for producing well-trained, safe drivers. You come in already qualified and job-ready, which can lead to faster hiring and potentially better starting positions.
TDI graduates often have several potential employer options after completing the program, many of them with our partner carriers. Though FedEx is not a partner carrier, they’re still a great employer, with many benefits and opportunities for career advancement to offer TDI graduates. Our students go on to become professional, efficient, and highly skilled graduates, and they can do a lot of great work at FedEx.
Whether you’re interested in one of the FedEx Express, FedEx Freight, or FedEx Ground truck driving jobs, a career with FedEx can offer you many chances to grow your career according to your desires and values. You’ll also be eligible to work for independent companies that deliver freight for FedEx, making you a prime candidate.
